Role overview
NMA (Neuromonitoring Associates) is hiring a Medical Coder for its Coding department in McKinney, Texas. This is a non-exempt, full-time onsite position reporting to the Director of Billing.
The role centers on accurate coding of medical records tied to intraoperative neuromonitoring services. The coder will review documentation, apply the correct ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II codes, and help ensure billing is completed accurately and in line with applicable standards and regulations.
The right candidate should be detail-oriented, comfortable analyzing clinical records, and able to work on their own as well as with billing and coding colleagues.
Key duties
- Review medical charts and assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS Level II systems while maintaining accuracy and regulatory compliance.
- Inspect supporting documents such as face sheets, operative notes, History and Physical records, and professional and technical reports.
- Confirm that medical records and automation summaries are complete and correct.
- Submit coded data for insurance claims and coordinate with billing staff to fix coding issues that could slow claim processing.
- Act as a knowledge resource for claim edits, Local Coverage Determinations, payer rules, and requirements specific to intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring.
- Apply CPT and ICD-10 guidance, along with legal and HIPAA requirements, to keep coding compliant.
- Process encounters and make sure all billable services are sent in on time.
- Keep up with coding updates, regulatory changes, and continuing education needs tied to certification.
- Spot documentation and coding trends and share education opportunities that can improve accuracy across documentation, coding, and billing.
- Identify charge edits that may help lower denials and improve practice management system performance.
