About Gradiant
Gradiant is an innovative water technology company delivering comprehensive proprietary solutions for advanced water and wastewater treatment. Originating from MIT, Gradiant supports vital industries like semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, lithium, critical minerals, and renewable energy by optimizing water use, minimizing waste discharge, and reclaiming valuable resources. Headquartered in Boston, it employs over 1,400 professionals globally.
Job Overview
This role involves ensuring the dependable, secure, and efficient functioning of all mechanical assets including treatment plants and utility systems through planned maintenance, condition monitoring, troubleshooting, and ongoing enhancements. The engineer will work to maximize equipment uptime, reduce failures, extend asset life, and support plant performance metrics.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and ensure reliability of rotating equipment such as various pumps (centrifugal, dosing, submersible, screw), blowers, compressors, mixers, agitators, gearboxes, centrifuges, sludge dewatering systems.
- Service and upkeep of static equipment including pressure vessels, storage tanks, clarifiers, thickeners, filter presses, piping, valves, strainers, heat exchangers.
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance; prepare daily to monthly maintenance schedules and shutdown plans.
- Monitor equipment health via vibration, bearing temperatures, lubrication status, and alignment parameters ensuring full compliance with maintenance routines.
- Lead troubleshooting processes on mechanical failures like pump and mechanical seal damage, bearing faults, cavitation, vibration problems, gearbox defects, and leaks; perform root cause and failure mode analyses and implement corrective measures.
- Maintain critical water treatment systems including RO/UF pumps and membranes, MBR air scouring and membrane assemblies, ZLD systems such as ATFD, MEE, crystallizers, centrifuges, slurry handling, and UPW components like RO and EDI skids, degasifiers, ion exchange units.
- Manage asset reliability by analyzing equipment condition trends, breakdown frequencies, spare parts usage; work to improve mean time between failures (MTBF) and mean time to repair (MTTR); maintain asset registers and maintenance histories.
- Handle spare parts and inventory management ensuring critical spares are maintained at optimal levels, verifying quality against OEM standards, tracking consumption and budgets, and issuing timely requisitions.
- Coordinate shutdown planning and execution, collaborating with operations, electrical, instrumentation teams and vendors ensuring smooth, timely completion.
- Adhere rigorously to safety and compliance requirements including Factory Act, site safety protocols, permit-to-work and lockout/tagout systems; actively participate in safety audits, risk assessments and incident investigations; promote proper personal protective equipment use and equipment handling.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including equipment histories, maintenance records, breakdown and root cause reports, inventory logs, shutdown and KPI reports.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives targeting energy optimization, reliability gains, maintenance cost reductions, and longer equipment life cycles.
Technical Requirements
- Strong expertise in pumps and pumping systems, blowers, compressors, gearboxes, bearings, mechanical seals, lubrication, and hydraulic systems.
- Practical experience with root cause analysis, strategies to improve MTBF and MTTR, vibration analysis, alignment, and predictive/condition-based maintenance techniques.
Work Location
This position requires site-based work across multiple locations in India, including Chennai.
