Mechanic - Field Service

About the role

Komatsu New Zealand is hiring a Field Service Mechanic to look after customers in the Invercargill and Southland area. In this position, you will service Komatsu mobile plant equipment at customer sites, working out in the field rather than from a workshop.

This role gives you the freedom to plan your own day, travel directly from home to site, and handle your workload independently while building trusted customer relationships. Because the region has steady demand, the position offers solid work continuity, technical breadth, and the chance to develop a long-term career with Komatsu in New Zealand or overseas.

The job is based in Invercargill, with a Monday to Friday roster from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Responsibilities

• Attend customer locations across the Invercargill/Southland region to service and repair Komatsu mobile plant equipment.
• Plan and manage your own daily workload with minimal supervision.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with customers.
• Carry out diagnostics, fault finding, and repair work to a high standard.
• Work safely and uphold quality workmanship on every job.

Requirements

• Trade qualification as a Heavy Diesel, Heavy Vehicle, or Automotive Mechanic.
• Hands-on experience with trucks, buses, trailers, or mobile plant equipment.
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and organise your own day.
• A strong commitment to safety and quality.
• Good communication skills and a customer-oriented approach.
• Current Class 1 licence; Class 2 licence is an advantage.
