About the Role

Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions is a leading global supplier of equipment, tools, parts, services, and technical solutions tailored for the mining and construction sectors. We are seeking a dedicated Underground Sandvik Rock Tools (SRT) Technician to manage daily servicing operations associated with the Sandvik Rock Tool Supply Performance Contract. This role requires strict adherence to operating procedures, policies, work scopes, and contractual obligations. The position is based at NFCA, Chambeshi, Kitwe, Copperbelt Province, Zambia.

Work Schedule

The position follows a rotating schedule of 4 days on and 4 days off, with 12-hour shifts. Reasonable overtime may be expected as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver rock tools and associated products promptly to assigned sites each day.
  • Collect worn or damaged rock tools from drilling sites and transport them to the surface for further evaluation.
  • Conduct analysis on tool conditions and failures, collaborating with equipment operators to review findings and suggest improvements.
  • Manage circuit stock levels on drilling rigs by restocking supplies from buffer storage as needed.
  • Perform detailed failure investigations on defective tools and report irregularities to the Contract Supervisor or Sales Representative.
  • Utilize the Sandvik Report App to record operational data and support advanced analyses.
  • Carry out tasks such as sorting, gauging, cutting, grinding, and color-coding of used drill bits.
  • Refurbish and repair blocked or bent rods to maintain operational standards.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent certification.
  • Possession of a Craft Certificate of Competence, Advanced Technician Certificate, or equivalent qualification.
  • At least 5 years of proven experience in a relevant technical role.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Fluent communication skills in English.
  • Possession of a full physical and medical certificate certifying fitness for the mining work environment.
  • Strong ability to analyze mechanical failures and formulate corrective recommendations.
  • Technical skills in refurbishing rock tools, including grinding, cutting, and straightening.
  • Knowledge of inventory management and stock control.
  • Competence in using specialized reporting software for operational data.
  • Effective communication abilities to liaise with operators and supervisors.

Desired Profile

The ideal candidate has experience working underground around heavy mining equipment, with current site inductions considered advantageous. A robust commitment to safety standards, excellent customer service, and communication skills are essential. Knowledge of on-site service contracts, underground mining operations, and familiarity with Sandvik drilling products will be highly valued. Candidates must also be able to pass a pre-employment medical evaluation.
