Role overview

An investment management client is looking for a Manager, People Operations to support a growing portfolio of businesses. The central responsibility is to operate the hiring engine by identifying, attracting, and successfully securing high-caliber product, design, engineering, and finance talent. In parallel, the role will help establish durable HR infrastructure across the portfolio, including onboarding, documentation, policies, and talent assessment practices.

This position suits someone who is effective at closing candidates, communicates clearly with founders and senior leaders, and brings the practical HR knowledge needed to create structure where it is still developing. There is also room for the role to expand into a broader people leadership position over time.

Recruitment and talent acquisition

  • Lead end-to-end hiring across the portfolio, including intake, sourcing, screening, interview scheduling, and offer closure, with emphasis on product, design, and engineering roles.
  • Take ownership of the offer negotiation and closing process from start to finish.
  • Develop forward-looking sourcing channels for both active openings and anticipated hiring needs instead of depending mainly on inbound applicants.

People operations and HR foundations

  • Design and launch a structured onboarding experience so every new employee receives a consistent and well-organized start.
  • Establish professional HR processes for documentation and policy, including employment agreements, offer letters, HR policies, and talent assessment frameworks, with proper consistency and compliance.
  • Support leadership in intentionally shaping company culture through communication, operating practices, and employee experience.
  • Keep employee records accurate and confidential, maintain people systems and the org chart, and provide light reporting on headcount and core people metrics.

The ideal candidate will bring 5 to 7 years of combined recruiting and HR/people operations experience, with direct ownership of full-cycle hiring and proven success closing offers. Experience sourcing and securing product, design, and/or engineering talent in a competitive market is important.

Applicants should also have experience establishing HR basics from the ground up, such as onboarding, policies, and employment documentation, preferably in an early-stage or first People role. Familiarity with Ontario employment standards is needed to handle policy and employment document ownership. The role also calls for the confidence to work directly with founders and senior operators, the ability to help shape culture, strong organization, and sound judgment when handling sensitive information.
