Manager - Medical Underwriting

About the role

Sharq Insurance is hiring a Manager - Medical Underwriting to take charge of the medical underwriting department. This position is suited to a commercially minded insurance leader who can guide underwriting operations, strengthen team performance, and support the company’s growth, profitability, and service quality.

What you will do

• Direct the medical underwriting team and ensure smooth day-to-day operations, strong execution, and delivery against business targets.
• Create and roll out underwriting approaches that match organizational goals and regulatory expectations.
• Review and authorize underwriting decisions in line with underwriting rules and risk controls.
• Work closely with Sales, Brokers, Bancassurance, Reinsurance, TPAs, Finance, Actuarial, and other internal teams to design attractive and profitable insurance offerings.
• Coordinate pricing guidance with actuarial colleagues so that commercial goals and risk exposure remain balanced.
• Support product enhancement, process optimization, quality improvements, and service excellence initiatives across the department.
• Track department KPIs, productivity, profitability, and service benchmarks to maintain high performance.
• Maintain strict compliance with applicable regulations, internal procedures, audit requirements, and governance standards.
• Develop and sustain productive relationships with clients, brokers, reinsurers, regulators, and other external partners.
• Coach, guide, and develop team members while promoting ownership, teamwork, and ongoing improvement.

Qualifications and experience

• A bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, or a closely related field.
• Between 10 and 15 years of experience in the insurance sector.
• Strong background in medical underwriting, including multiple years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
• Solid understanding of medical insurance products, underwriting methods, pricing, and risk evaluation.
• Good knowledge of insurance regulations, compliance obligations, and industry-standard practices.
• Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams, managing stakeholder relationships, and achieving business outcomes.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation, communication, and leadership abilities.
