Role overview
The Irving Public Library is looking for a part-time library assistant who is organized, attentive to detail, and comfortable working with the public. This role supports day-to-day library operations and customer service across tasks such as circulation, shelving, material handling, and program support.
Key duties
- Check library items in, shelve materials, and help unload and sort returns and other library resources.
- Support customers with checkout services and the process of obtaining library cards.
- Handle search reports and assist with library programs, displays, and promotional flyers.
- Respond to account-related questions from patrons and provide help with library computers and other equipment.
- Move and transport books and other library materials as needed.
Working conditions
This is an on-site part-time role. Work hours will vary and will include some evenings and weekends. Candidates must submit their available hours along with the application. The position may require frequent lifting of up to 60 pounds.
Pay information
This position is assigned to Pay Grade GG10. The full pay range is $17.86 to $25.18 per hour.
Required background
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with at least one year of relevant experience. Spanish-language ability is considered a plus.
