The organisation delivers free and confidential support across legal assistance, financial counselling, social support and cultural support for First Nations people. Its approach is trauma-informed and culturally safe, with the goal of helping clients make informed decisions on their path to healing and justice.
This role is purpose-led and offers salary packaging, additional superannuation and leave benefits.

- Operate in line with relevant legal profession obligations and the Community Legal Centre Risk Management Guide.
- Collaborate with internal legal and non-legal staff, as well as external service providers, so client needs are identified and addressed promptly and effectively.
- Handle a substantial caseload while meeting service standards, timeframes and data recording requirements.
- Arrange referrals, including warm referrals, to appropriate support services.
- Take part in outreach to relevant agencies and, where possible, remote communities in a culturally respectful way.

- Practical knowledge of administrative law and/or civil law, or a strong working understanding of those areas.
- Experience giving legal advice to vulnerable people using a trauma-informed approach.
- Demonstrated cultural capability when working with Aboriginal people and/or organisations, or the ability to learn and apply these skills quickly.
- Ability to explain legal matters in plain language.
- Comfort with computer systems used in legal practice; CRM system knowledge is an advantage.
- Willingness to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong commitment to social justice.
- Resilience, self-awareness and the ability to manage personal wellbeing effectively.
Benefits and working conditions
- Permanent-feeling commitment through a fixed-term contract running until 30 June 2027.
- General leave entitlements, including a full shutdown from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day without using annual leave.
- 17.5% leave loading on annual leave.
- Not-for-profit salary packaging, including options such as general expenses, parking, novated leasing, meals and entertainment.
- Flexible work arrangements, including hybrid working with two work-from-home days, adjusted pro rata for part-time staff after a qualifying probation period and home office assessment.
- Access to paid external supervision as well as regular internal supervision.
- Training and development opportunities beyond the core training program.
- Employee assistance program access.
- An extra 0.5% superannuation on top of the guaranteed rate.
- Trauma-informed workplace supports such as break spaces, couches, puzzles and food.
- Meaningful, socially impactful work with no billable hours and no expectation of overtime or unpaid work, according to staff feedback.
