About the Alberta Securities Commission
The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is a regulator funded by industry that administers securities law in Alberta. Its mandate is to support a capital market that is fair, efficient, and well-functioning while also safeguarding investors. As part of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC contributes to coordinated and harmonized oversight of Canada’s capital markets.
Team Overview
The Information Technology team ensures the organization has the tools, resources, and secure technology environment needed to deliver services consistently and reliably. The team also anticipates the ASC’s evolving technology needs and works to support them effectively.
Role Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Programs and Enterprise Delivery, the IT Business Analyst is responsible for identifying business needs, capturing and documenting requirements, and helping improve applications and business processes. This role works closely with stakeholders and IT teams to shape solutions, resolve issues, and strengthen service delivery.
Business Analysis
- Lead analysis work to identify, document, and confirm business requirements, processes, data needs, and access needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and IT partners to review the current and desired future state, compare solution options, and suggest practical enhancements.
- Prepare clear analysis documentation and support delivery through design, testing, deployment, and troubleshooting.
Business Relationship Management
- Develop a solid understanding of the business partners’ processes, goals, priorities, drivers, policies, regulations, culture, and challenges within the ASC.
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders to clarify business objectives, question assumptions, and support informed decision-making.
- Challenge business-unit assumptions about how plans should be executed and use influencing skills to build agreement and shared understanding.
- Present analytical findings, technical factors, and project progress to both business and technical audiences.
Change Management
- Support change management, testing, and implementation activities alongside business units and project teams.
- Follow best practices for requirement traceability, version control, change control, and managing stakeholder expectations.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- A degree in information technology, business, or a closely related field.
- At least five years of relevant experience, with a minimum of three years working with business stakeholders to convert needs into technical solutions.
- Proven ability to use advanced business analysis methods to identify issues and communicate them clearly.
- Strong client-service orientation, relationship-building ability, and consultation skills.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Certification such as CBAP, BRMP, or PMP would be considered an advantage.

This fixed-term role is based in Calgary, Alberta, and requires work from the ASC office. The position includes a hybrid work arrangement and flexibility.
