Role Overview
The Hygiene Operative position at the New World Foods site in York is a night shift role (10pm-6am) focusing on upholding exceptional hygiene and sanitation standards within all production zones. The role's primary objective is to clean, sanitize, and prepare machinery and the working environment to ensure food safety, product quality, and compliance with site regulations. Reporting to the Hygiene Manager, this role is a key contributor to maintaining a safe production environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure sanitation and hygiene standards are maintained at the highest level across production areas.
- Clean and sanitize production equipment and machinery carefully.
- Dismantle equipment when necessary to allow thorough cleaning, then reassemble it post-cleaning.
- Complete scheduled cleaning and sanitation duties in line with protocols.
- Perform deep cleaning activities as required.
- Adhere strictly to hygiene, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and food safety procedures.
- Handle cleaning agents and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Comply with all personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
- Conduct quality inspections to verify that cleaning standards are met.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and secure.
- Report any hygiene, maintenance, or safety concerns promptly.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to hygiene standards.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working in a food manufacturing or other hygiene-sensitive environment.
- Basic knowledge of Food Safety, COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), and Health & Safety regulations.
- Strong attention to detail, committed to achieving and maintaining high hygiene standards.
- Ability to accurately follow instructions, procedures, and adhere to hygiene schedules.
- Capable of completing various cleaning tasks, including manual equipment dismantling and use of cleaning machinery.
- Willingness to learn new skills, develop professionally, and accept constructive feedback.
- Effective communication skills with an ability to escalate issues appropriately when needed.
