Role overview
This onsite Human Resources Manager role in Columbus, OH is suited to an HR professional who enjoys combining recruiting, employee relations, and day-to-day HR operations. The position is focused on supporting a busy, collaborative workplace while leading the hiring process end to end.
Key responsibilities
- Own the entire hiring cycle for both hourly and salaried positions, from talent sourcing and interviewing through offers, hiring, and onboarding.
- Work closely with managers to shape recruiting plans and keep a healthy flow of qualified candidates moving through the process.
- Arrange new hire orientation and handle background screening, licensing, and required compliance paperwork.
- Keep employee files current and assist with HRIS tasks, payroll, employee benefits, leave administration, and workers’ compensation matters.
- Provide support in employee relations, performance management, policy administration, and HR compliance activities.
- Help drive safety-related efforts and make sure practices align with DOT, OSHA, and applicable employment laws.
- Organize training sessions, certification tracking, and ongoing employee development efforts.
- Act as a dependable point of contact for employees with questions about HR policies, benefits, and workplace procedures.
Qualifications and experience
An associate’s degree is required. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related discipline is preferred. The role calls for at least 3 years of experience in HR and recruiting. Prior exposure to transportation, logistics, construction, manufacturing, or a similar operations-focused setting is an advantage. Candidates should understand employment law, HR compliance, and DOT/OSHA requirements, and should be comfortable working with HRIS and payroll platforms.
Skills and strengths
Strong command of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Outlook, Teams, and Word, is important. The ideal candidate brings excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving ability, along with the capacity to juggle multiple priorities accurately and confidentially. A proactive, hands-on mindset, strong relationship-building skills, attention to detail, and good time management are also highly valued.
