About the Role
The Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) plays a consultative role to both employees and leadership within selected departments at the University of Indianapolis. The HRBP builds collaborative partnerships to identify and address human resources needs proactively. Responsibilities include human resources management, compensation oversight, performance management, employee relations, and delivering both routine and complex HR services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with employees and leaders to enhance workplace relations, boost morale, and elevate employee engagement, productivity, and retention.
- Design and implement effective programs and solutions that enrich workplace experience and departmental performance.
- Handle complex employee relations matters, executing thorough and impartial investigations.
- Offer daily performance management advice to leaders, including coaching, counseling, career growth, and disciplinary measures.
- Provide guidance and interpretation of HR policies; work alongside HR colleagues to create and enforce beneficial workplace policies.
- Assess training requirements and develop or acquire professional development and in-service training for staff and supervisors.
- Consult with departmental partners regarding organizational development and staffing; oversee recruitment and selection processes, ensuring proper onboarding documentation.
- Monitor and manage budgeted staffing allocations and accurate position controls in partnership with the University’s Controller.
- Assist in drafting or revising position descriptions; determine FLSA status and benchmark compensation levels.
- Administer accommodation requests to support inclusivity for employees and departments.
- Oversee HR systems including applicant tracking, HRIS, and e-learning platforms.
- Conduct audits of employee records to ensure accuracy and regulatory compliance; provide reports to stakeholders.
- Respond to inquiries from regulatory bodies such as DOL, EEOC, and unemployment offices.
- Communicate effectively across the University community; write, research, and edit employee-related documents.
- Supervise Human Resources Coordinators to ensure quality work and development; act in Director’s absence as needed.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of employment laws to minimize liability and assure compliance, collaborating with legal counsel when required.
- Represent the University to community organizations.
- Adhere to University policies, demonstrate ethical and respectful conduct, and uphold employee responsibilities detailed in handbooks.
- Exhibit consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Five years of professional HR consulting or generalist experience; supervisory experience is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of Human Resource management principles.
- Familiarity with state and federal labor laws and regulations; experience with Banner HRIS preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, or a related field.
- Certification as Professional in Human Resources (PHR) via HRCI or SHRM-CP required; SPHR or SHRM-SCP preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing Human Resources Coordinators and providing leadership within this team.
Additional Information
- This position serves as a Title IX Responsible Employee and a Campus Security Authority.
- No requirement for a clean driving record.
- This is not deemed an Essential role under the Extreme Weather Policy.
