Role Overview
The HR Generalist (People Operations) is a critical contributor within Butcher Power Products, tasked with delivering core human resources functions and managing employee relations across various states. Reporting directly to the Director of HR & Talent, this role blends hands-on operational duties with strategic HR initiatives. The incumbent acts as a key resource for employees and management by providing guidance on HR policies, resolving workplace concerns, supporting onboarding, benefits handling, and ensuring compliance. Success in this position requires a proactive, detail-focused individual able to juggle multiple tasks independently while collaborating with cross-department teams. This role helps refine the HR framework, ensuring uniform policy application and advancing process enhancements aligned with company growth.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a main contact for employee and managerial concerns, conducting consultations and managing employee relations cases alongside Payroll/HR Specialist.
- Draft, review, and deliver disciplinary documents, maintaining adherence to policies and legal obligations.
- Offer counseling and conflict resolution support to staff, duly documenting interactions.
- Guide managers on performance management, HR policies, and employee relations workflows.
- Assist in conducting workplace investigations under senior HR oversight, escalating complex issues appropriately.
- Coordinate onboarding including Day-1 preparedness, scheduling, and new hire setup procedures.
- Maintain confidential and accurate employee records abiding by legal standards.
- Provide onsite assistance to in-office and frontline employees, directing inquiries as needed.
- Manage leaves, accommodations, and benefit enrollments for a distributed workforce in partnership with benefits providers.
- Support HR processes facilitating smooth operations during organizational expansion.
- Act as a backup for payroll and HRIS functions during absences or peak periods, ensuring data accuracy.
- Participate in drafting and updating HR policies, SOPs, and contribute to scalable HR system improvements.
- Assist with compensation tasks including job evaluations and pay-range analyses.
- Support performance management activities, including reviews and improvement plan documentation.
- Oversee compliance with multi-state employment laws, wage and hour regulations, and maintain required records such as I-9 forms.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent experience.
- Between 3 and 5 years of progressive experience in HR focusing on employee relations and operations.
- Proven capability in employee consultations, disciplinary documentation, and advising managers on HR-related matters.
- Experience designing, maintaining, and applying HR policies and SOPs, supporting performance management and compensation.
- Strong knowledge of multi-state employment legislation, wage-hour compliance, and disciplinary processes; familiarity with California laws advantageous.
- Practical experience with HR information systems and payroll processes, including backup responsibilities.
- High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee data.
- Excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize in a high-volume environment.
- Preferred: background in manufacturing, industrial, or frontline workforce HR roles.
- Familiarity with PEO platforms or shared HRIS services.
- HR certifications such as PHR or SHRM-CP are beneficial; multi-state compliance experience preferred.
- Experience assisting organizations through phases of rapid growth.
