Description de l'emploi

Role overview

BCP Council’s Highway Delivery Team is hiring skilled highway operatives to support a wide range of highway works. The post covers routine maintenance, construction schemes, traffic management, winter service support and other related duties that help keep the public highway safe and usable for residents and visitors.

Pay and progression

The salary for this post is £28,598 at Band 5, pro rata for part-time colleagues, with an additional recruitment and retention payment of up to £3,197. There is also an opportunity to boost earnings by taking part in the out-of-hours rota.

This is a structured pay-band role with clear progression. Every new starter begins at the entry point of the band to keep progression fair and consistent across the council. Internal colleagues are also usually appointed at the bottom of the band, unless they are moving within the same profession and skill level within the same band, in which case they may keep their existing pay point.

What you will do

  • Carry out highway maintenance work such as patching and remedial repairs.
  • Support highway construction and resurfacing projects, including both small and major improvement schemes.
  • Set up and operate traffic management on rural roads, urban roads and high-speed networks.
  • Contribute to winter service provision and other delivery activities as required.
  • Work professionally and calmly when dealing with members of the public.

Working arrangements

Successful applicants will be based at either Hatch Pond Road Depot in Poole or Southcote Road Depot in Bournemouth.

Additional information

Interested candidates may contact Greg Kerr, Highway Manager, on 01202 127186 for an informal discussion about the role.

This position is subject to a full pre-employment medical questionnaire being completed by the successful applicant.
