About the Role

Southern Institute of Technology (SIT) is seeking a skilled and qualified Health, Safety & Wellbeing Coordinator based in Invercargill, New Zealand. This full-time permanent position focuses on delivering comprehensive health and safety support to various stakeholders within the organization, ensuring adherence to relevant legislation and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for supporting the development, ongoing maintenance, and execution of health and safety processes including data collection, policy implementation, management reporting, risk assessments, maintaining contractor records, and emergency preparedness activities. Additionally, a significant aspect of this role involves supporting employee wellbeing by coordinating wellbeing programs, fostering positive workplace practices, and embedding health, safety, and wellbeing principles into daily work culture.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess a Level 6 qualification in Health and Safety or equivalent. A minimum of two years’ experience in a similar capacity with demonstrable expertise in health and safety management frameworks is required. Interest or experience in workplace wellbeing and nurturing an engaging, positive organizational culture will be advantageous. Strong verbal and written communication abilities combined with adeptness at building effective relationships at all organizational levels are essential. Excellent organizational and administrative capabilities, alongside a commitment to confidentiality, are critical. The candidate must have a solid understanding of the Health & Safety at Work Act 2015, be proficient with computers and adaptable to new systems, exhibit a proactive and inquisitive attitude, and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
