Description de l'emploi
About Our Client
Our client is a venture-funded technology company aggressively expanding through acquisitions in the accounting services sector. Having successfully completed two acquisitions and targeting 5 to 8 more this year, they are developing the operational foundation required to support rapid scale. This fast-moving organization is heavily invested in its people and is creating a distinct presence in a fragmented industry.
Role Overview
This leadership role offers a ground-floor opportunity with direct interaction with the Founder and a defined progression towards becoming Chief Operating Officer as the company grows. The Head of Operations will be responsible for managing the entire delivery and operational framework of the accounting practice, ensuring excellence, consistency, and efficiency across all acquired firms during rapid expansion.
Positioned at the convergence of accounting operations, leadership, and technology, you will act as the critical liaison linking accounting services and the internal product team. Your role is to diagnose and articulate operational challenges rather than selecting tools, influencing product development accordingly. Working closely with the Founder for strategic direction and the product team for tactical execution, you serve as the essential connector between actual field operations and product innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and oversee standards ensuring accountants in each acquired firm deliver accurate and timely work meeting client expectations.
- Continuously monitor client interaction and delivery schedules across all business units.
- Evaluate the quality of Client Accounting Services (CAS) and tax engagements, addressing any deficiencies directly.
- Lead change management and staff integration initiatives to facilitate smooth transitions in tools, processes, and operating models, securing team alignment and acceptance.
- Develop and implement onboarding and training programs that enable swift ramp-up and consistent performance for newly acquired staff.
- Manage recruitment and professional development of new or replacement personnel to support portfolio growth.
- Identify and execute process improvements by eliminating inefficiencies, standardizing procedures, and sustaining operational effectiveness amidst multiple acquisition activities.
- Serve as the chief diagnostic interface with the product team to identify critical operational problems; the product team then creates and iterates on solutions tailored to these needs.
- Maintain a continual feedback mechanism between operational practices and product teams to ensure the developed tools meet frontline requirements and are effectively utilized.
Qualifications and Experience
- Extensive experience delivering accounting services, preferably in client-facing or leadership operational roles.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Proven expertise in assessing CAS and tax work quality at the engagement level within a public accounting context.
- Experience managing and developing accounting teams, including hiring and establishing training initiatives.
- Comfortable working in technology-driven environments with direct engagement in product strategies relating to workflows and tools.
- Background in mergers and acquisitions, firm integration, or managing multi-entity operations is greatly preferred.
- Excellent organizational skills capable of handling complexity across multiple firms and simultaneous projects.
- Demonstrated adaptability and resilience within fast-paced, startup environments, fostering trust and collaboration at all organizational levels.
- A proactive leader who champions change focused on improving work quality rather than change for its own sake.
Compensation and Benefits
- Annual cash compensation ranging from $250,000 to $350,000 in the first year, complemented by equity participation in this venture-backed accounting roll-up.
- A comprehensive and negotiable benefits package tailored to individual needs.
- Fully remote work setup allowing location flexibility.
