Role Overview

We are seeking a proactive and hands-on Head of Design who will establish the highest standards for the product experience across Hilo's mobile applications, web platforms, onboarding processes, and the broader customer journey. This role requires deep expertise in Figma, including design systems, motion, and AI-assisted design workflows, supported by an impressive portfolio.

Given Hilo's nature as a wearable health product, responsibilities extend beyond digital design to include hardware, packaging, documentation, and all physical interactions customers encounter. While not requiring industrial design skills, the ideal candidate should possess strong perspectives on physical product aesthetics and brand coherence and serve as the company's authoritative figure on design quality.

Key Responsibilities

• Directly work in Figma to refine key product flows such as mobile app interfaces, onboarding, device calibration, subscription management, user insights, and retention features.
• Elevate standards of interaction, visual, motion, and typographic design across all deliverables.
• Develop and maintain scalable Figma design systems, including components, patterns, documentation, and accessibility standards; leverage AI tools to enhance ideation and prototyping.
• Collaborate with design, engineering, firmware, hardware, and algorithm teams to deliver superior user experience across all touchpoints.
• Define and uphold a unified quality benchmark for design; provide constructive, expert feedback emphasizing conviction and humility.
• Lead and expand the design team, fostering strong critique, review processes, and quality assurance practices, while nurturing designers’ growth in skill, efficiency, and confidence.

Candidate Profile

• A hands-on senior product designer with leadership experience.
• Mastery of Figma’s advanced features including variables, components, libraries, and prototyping.
• Expertise in motion and interaction design principles.
• Proficiency in AI-powered design workflows.
• Experience in creating or advancing design systems in fast-paced environments.
• A compelling portfolio demonstrating diverse expertise in mobile design, app workflows, and visual aesthetics.
• Strong personal standards and enthusiasm for designs extending across digital products, branding, packaging, hardware, and documentation.
• Passion for physical and industrial design impacts, guiding consistent brand experience across all product touchpoints.
