Overview
InPlanet is rapidly expanding, aiming to substantially increase carbon credit issuance this year and beyond. To support this growth, the company is seeking a Head of Carbon to oversee operational, project management, and team leadership aspects within its carbon credit division. Reporting directly to the VP of Science and Research, this leadership role ensures smooth, scalable carbon credit processes from documentation through registry management.
Team Leadership
- Direct supervision of the Principal Carbon Scientist and GHG Accounting Lead.
- Recruitment, onboarding, development, and scaling of the carbon team aligned with credit issuance growth.
- Setting clear team objectives and key results (OKRs) to drive accountability.
Project and Process Management
- Oversee full project timelines for all carbon credit initiatives.
- Introduce and maintain efficient, scalable project management frameworks tailored for fast-paced startup environments.
- Ensure timely completion of all milestones, proactively engaging stakeholders for necessary approvals.
- Liaise with partners such as Isometric on administrative and compliance requirements.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as the primary facilitator for knowledge sharing between the carbon team and departments including Business Development and Operations.
- Monitor, communicate, and fulfill commitments to other teams.
- Represent the carbon function in leadership and strategic planning meetings.
Strategic Contributions
- Assist in developing high-level carbon strategies and scaling frameworks, integrating insights from the carbon team.
- Manage forecasting, projections, and reporting related to credit issuance.
- Help adapt the organizational structure and resource allocation as the company grows.
Preferred Background
- Proven project management expertise, especially within startup or growth-stage companies.
- Experience leading teams, setting goals, and managing priorities in dynamic environments.
- Scientific or technical background in carbon, environmental science, or geochemistry that supports understanding of carbon credit mechanisms.
- Master’s degree in relevant fields such as geochemistry, environmental science, or carbon management.
- Exceptional organization and ability to handle multiple workstreams.
- Collaborative mindset with openness to learning and effective communication across hierarchy levels.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity and establishing structure within complex internal procedures.
- Willingness to travel regularly.
Additional Qualifications (Desirable)
- Prior exposure to carbon markets or related environmental sciences.
- Knowledge of carbon registries and credit issuance operations.
- Experience managing organizational growth or transitions.
- Portuguese language skills and/or presence in Brazil.
- PhD in a pertinent discipline.
