Overview

This role is for a hairstylist in Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada, working in a barbershop or hairstyling salon/studio. The position is carried out entirely on site; remote work is not available.

A trades certificate or diploma in another field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is accepted.

Experience

Prior experience is considered an asset, but it is not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Schedule customer appointments.
• Cut and shape hair based on the client’s direction or personal style preferences.
• Wash clients’ hair.
• Shave and trim facial hair such as beards and moustaches.
• Carry out additional hair services, including waving, straightening, tinting, and scalp conditioning massages.
• Apply bleaching, tinting, dyeing, or rinsing treatments to colour, frost, or highlight hair.
• Cut, trim, taper, curl, wave, perm, and style hair.
• Recommend hairstyles that suit the client’s features and preferences.
• Handle receptionist duties as required.

Credentials

A hairstylist licence is required.

Specialization

Hair styling methods include blow-drying, iron waving/curling, permanents, and roller setting. Hair colouring techniques include bleach, dyes/tints, frosting, and streaking/highlights.
