- Carry out forensic testing and related tasks using validated accredited methods, equipment, and standards within a multidisciplinary team, while working under professional and ethical guidelines and gradually taking on greater accountability as experience grows.
- Perform routine laboratory duties and progressively more complex tasks under the direction of senior staff, including sample processing and basic histology work.
- Support scientists with sample analysis and case handling, ensuring work is completed accurately and within required timeframes in a busy, high-volume setting.
- Use technical knowledge to identify and resolve workflow or method issues, and contribute to improvements that strengthen service delivery.
- Depending on experience, help train less experienced staff, support the development of forensic and scientific procedures, and take part in quality and service improvement activities.
- Report results to senior staff and key stakeholders, including information connected to the National Criminal Investigation DNA Database, and provide factual court evidence about work completed if required.
- Take part in team activities, including supporting the introduction of new technologies and new processes in the work area.
- Build technical capability through ongoing professional development.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively within the forensic biology team and with internal and external clients and stakeholders.
- Provide test results and technical advice to team members, clients, and other key stakeholders.
