Position Summary

The Food Service Worker II role involves manual and semi-skilled food service work within dining hall or kitchen operations, where the employee performs advanced duties beyond entry-level tasks. Responsibilities include limited supervision of subordinate staff involved in food service and facility cleaning, assisting in food preparation, and ensuring courteous service to patrons. Employees apply skills acquired through experience and follow specific oral and written instructions, with their work quality reviewed through observations and inspections.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist cooks and kitchen staff with food preparation, cleaning, serving, dishwashing, table cleaning, and floor sweeping duties (approximately 30% of time).
• Supervise subordinate food service workers during serving, facility cleaning, and meal preparation on serving lines (approximately 30% of time).
• Ensure neatness and cleanliness in food handling and serving; operate food service equipment such as meat slicers, mixers, and steam cookers while maintaining courteous patron service (approximately 30% of time).
• Perform any other work-related tasks assigned by management (approximately 10% of time).

Qualifications and Skills

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent is required; education/experience evaluations may be done by Human Resources.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to supervise routine food service tasks effectively, fostering good performance and morale among employees.
• Knowledge of health hazards related to food preparation, including necessary safety precautions.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to move loads up to 50 lbs and push/pull products up to 30 lbs.
• Perform repetitive motions involving wrists, arms, and shoulders.
• Must have hand and finger coordination, and ability to reach, climb, balance, crouch, twist, crawl, and kneel.
• Work in noisy, hot or cold environments, sometimes with exposure to chemicals, cleaning equipment, dust, fumes, and odors.
• Willingness to stand for extended hours.

Additional Information

• This position offers a 40-hour work week, with schedules varying and possibly including evenings and weekends.
• The hourly wage is $16.73.
