Field Service Engineer - Analytical & Laboratory Instrumentation

Role overview

This permanent, field-based opportunity is for a Field Service Engineer covering Connacht and the Midlands, with occasional travel across Ireland as business needs require. The position sits within a respected Irish distributor that partners with global manufacturers and supplies analytical, laboratory, and weighing equipment to pharmaceutical, industrial, and research customers.

You will be part of an established technical service function and play a key role in commissioning, installing, repairing, calibrating, and maintaining analytical laboratory instruments. The role also includes validation support and breakdown attendance in regulated environments.

Key duties

The role requires hands-on service work on a range of analytical laboratory instrumentation, along with technical troubleshooting and support at customer sites. You will be expected to manage work independently in the field while also collaborating closely with the wider service team.

Technical focus

Work will involve service validation, fault diagnosis, repair work, calibration, and preventative maintenance. The environment is highly regulated, so accuracy, consistency, and an understanding of quality-controlled processes are important.

Candidate profile

The ideal applicant will have a recognised qualification in electrical, instrumentation, or mechanical engineering, plus prior experience in a similar field service or technical support position. Practical knowledge of analytical instrumentation is essential, as is the ability to identify faults and restore complex laboratory equipment.

Experience with quality systems such as ISO or INAB, and regulatory frameworks including FDA, HPRA, or similar standards, would be a strong advantage. Exposure to chromatography, spectrophotometry, atomic absorption, or TOC systems is also highly beneficial.

You should be proactive, organised, capable of working autonomously, and comfortable managing your own time in the field. Strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and competence with Microsoft Office are required. A full, clean Irish driving licence is essential, and overnight stays will be needed from time to time.

Compensation and benefits

The package includes a base salary of €40,000 to €50,000 depending on experience, plus a bonus structure.
