Description de l'emploi
Role overview
We are seeking confident, sea-ready crew to join a small maritime team operating in the Foveaux Strait. The role is based around Stewart Island and is ideal for someone who enjoys working on the water, interacting with guests, and contributing to safe, smooth vessel operations.
What you will do
You will play an important part in creating enjoyable trips for visitors while supporting day-to-day ferry operations. The job involves guest service, practical deck work, and hands-on assistance across the vessel.
- Serve food and beverages to guests during journeys.
- Share local knowledge and stories to enhance the guest experience.
- Help keep the vessel tidy, organised, and ready for service.
- Assist with luggage and freight handling.
- Support line handling and other safe operating duties on board.
Working arrangement
This is a physically active role with a 4 days on, 4 days off roster. The position is full time and runs until 30 April 2026.
What we are looking for
The ideal candidate will bring maritime confidence, strong people skills, and a practical, can-do approach. Prior experience on the Foveaux Strait is helpful, but not essential.
- Background in maritime work and a genuine comfort with life at sea.
- Full New Zealand driver licence is required.
- Strong communication and customer service ability.
- Exposure to the Foveaux Strait is considered an advantage.
- Forklift licence is a plus.
Perks and benefits
Along with the opportunity to work in a unique maritime setting, the role comes with strong staff benefits that allow you to enjoy some of the South Island's best experiences at little or no cost.
- Free or heavily discounted access to experiences such as Shotover and Kawarau River rafting, Milford and Doubtful Sound cruises, Te Anau Glowworm Caves, and lakeside dining at Walter Peak High Country Farm.
About the employer
The company is a conservation-focused tourism operator that aims to connect people with remarkable places while encouraging care for the environment.
