Company Overview
AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited is progressing with the redevelopment of the Obuasi Gold Mine, focusing on establishing a fully mechanized underground operation, aiming for an average ore extraction of up to 5,000 tonnes per day.
Role Purpose and Context
This role seeks a motivated, experienced fabricator to join the process plant team. Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, the Fabricator is responsible for welding and boilermaking tasks supporting refurbishment, maintenance, and repair activities within the processing plant. The position requires adherence to safety and compliance standards throughout all shifts.
Key Accountabilities
- Comply with regulations set by Ghanaian government agencies, environmental, health and safety laws, and AngloGold Ashanti standards.
- Take personal accountability for personal safety and that of colleagues impacted by work activities.
- Follow the Environmental Management Plan at site.
- Coordinate with contractors and construction teams as directed on mechanical tasks linked to refurbishment and scheduled maintenance.
- Participate in training programs focused on skills development and performance enhancement.
- Carry out boilermaking and fabrication duties as assigned, ensuring full regulatory compliance.
- When needed, provide precise crane movement signals for positioning machines or equipment.
- Perform equipment and tool pre-start inspections each day before leaving the workshop, reporting any issues found.
- Evaluate and prepare all necessary tools and equipment for assigned tasks.
- Identify equipment or crane operational irregularities needing maintenance and report accordingly.
- Support the Maintenance Planner by providing data to close work orders within SAP after completing tasks.
- Complete work in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Operate equipment safely, giving proper instructions to riggers for crane operations and intervening proactively when equipment shows signs of potential failure.
- Halt equipment use immediately if unsafe or high-risk conditions are identified.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed secondary education.
- Certification from a recognized fabrication, welding, or boilermaking apprenticeship (e.g., City and Guilds).
- At least five years of post-apprenticeship experience in fabrication trades.
- Knowledge of Ghana Minerals and Mining regulations concerning health, safety and technical standards.
Technical Skills
- Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
- Proficiency in mechanical trade competencies.
- Understanding of safe crane operation techniques.
