About Us
The Customs Administration, as a local authority under the Federal Ministry of Finance, operates the Main Customs Office Erfurt with about 1000 employees. We ensure the operational capabilities of customs daily, promote Germany as a business location, and contribute to the stabilization of social systems. Our work aims to protect the economy from market distortions, safeguard consumers from faulty foreign goods, and shield the public from transnational organized crime.
Position Overview
As part of an external personnel strengthening initiative, the Main Customs Office Erfurt is recruiting several staff members (m/f/d) for the Operations Training Center located in Chemnitz to serve as ETZ Technicians responsible for hall and weapons maintenance. The role is classified under salary grade 4 according to the TV EntgO Bund pay scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and carry out all work related to the sports halls, training facilities, and indoor shooting range at the Chemnitz ETZ.
- Storage, oversight, and distribution (issue and return) of all training materials, sports equipment, operational training gear, including weapons, ammunition, and accessories used for weapons and shooting training.
- Maintenance and care of all training materials, sports and operational training equipment, weapons, ammunition, service and training vehicles, communication radios, and technical equipment, including minor repairs.
- Clean shooting ranges within the indoor complex and safely dispose of residual propellant powder.
- Willingness to undertake additional tasks as required.

Requirements
- Full physical capability to perform duties.
- Willingness to work in a two-shift system Monday through Friday between 06:00 and 20:00, occasionally on Saturdays from 07:00 to 13:00, in person.
- Capability and readiness to operate official vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license (Class 3 or B), not provisional.
- At least two years of experience in one or more of the following areas: manual trades, warehouse activities or management, building maintenance or janitorial services.
- A vocational qualification in a manual trade with a minimum duration of two years is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Willingness to participate in training programs and undergo an orientation period at one of the other locations (Plessow, Leipzig, or Sigmaringen) for approximately two weeks.
- Experience handling weapons and ammunition is preferable.
- Readiness to acquire explosives-related qualifications as per shooting range regulations, if not already possessed.
- Good interpersonal skills including proper conduct, self-reliance, teamwork, communication capabilities, conflict resolution, and responsibility.
- Proficiency in German, both spoken and written, with clear articulation.
- Basic computer skills, particularly MS Office applications like Excel, Word, and Outlook, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to work overtime when required, compensated via time off, including on Sundays and holidays for specific tasks.
Additional Information
The position is open exclusively to external applicants. The employment contract follows the specifications of pay group 4 TV EntgO Bund, with the experience level corresponding to TVöD Bund standards. Upon hiring, an official police clearance certificate must be provided.
Part-time work arrangements may be considered depending on service requirements.
