Role overview

Based in Auckland, this role is focused on producing accurate, independent cost estimates for major infrastructure projects. It is suited to someone who enjoys working across varied, high-value assignments and contributing strategic thinking that supports essential services and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Create first-principles pricing for infrastructure work, including facilities, civil works, and pipework, with a particular emphasis on electrical packages.
• Measure and quantify from design documents while working closely with engineering teams to maintain accuracy.
• Check quantities and pricing supplied by vendors, contractors, and other market sources.
• Gather, compare, and negotiate quotations to secure competitive pricing.
• Evaluate and price risk during the early stages of a project.
• Compile estimates, bills of quantities, and bills of materials in a structured format.
• Prepare detailed reports and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
• Provide integrated estimating support and offer strategic as well as technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle.

Skills and experience

• 5 to 10+ years of relevant industry experience, ideally within water utilities or closely related sectors.
• Strong background in electrical estimating, including LV/HV cabling, switchgear, transformers, SCADA, and VSDs.
• A relevant tertiary qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, Engineering, or a similar discipline.
• Advanced capability in Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI and CSS Candy/Quantum is an advantage.
• Strong analytical thinking and the ability to present confidently to stakeholders.
• Experience in consultancy environments, along with knowledge of contractor-side delivery.
• Mechanical estimating experience will be viewed favourably.
• Team-oriented approach with leadership potential and the ability to build strong working relationships.
