Estimator - Hazardous Materials & Asbestos

About the role

Aztech Services Australia is seeking an experienced Estimator to support its expanding hazardous materials and asbestos operations in Underwood, Queensland. The role suits someone who understands asbestos work, enjoys client interaction, and is motivated by assembling competitive tenders that help win projects.

This is a hands-on position rather than a purely office-based one. You will spend time on site, speak with clients, shape project scopes, price work, and contribute to securing hazardous materials and demolition projects across a varied workload.

Key responsibilities

• Visit sites to inspect conditions and determine project needs.
• Review asbestos registers and hazardous materials survey reports to inform pricing and scope.
• Build detailed estimates covering labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs.
• Create work scopes and outline project methods.
• Examine architectural, structural, and services drawings to support accurate quoting.
• Draft tender documents, clarifications, and commercial pricing submissions.
• Develop productive relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors.
• Attend client meetings and represent the business professionally.
• Assist with project handover so delivery starts smoothly.

Requirements

• Previous experience estimating or running projects in the hazardous materials sector.
• Strong working knowledge of friable and non-friable asbestos removal.
• Commercial judgement to weigh risk, cost, and opportunity effectively.
• Comfortable communicating with clients and other important stakeholders.
• Good understanding of containment, decontamination, and waste disposal obligations.
• Experience assessing subcontractor pricing and negotiating when needed.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Able to work on your own while still contributing to a high-performing team.
• 5+ years of estimating experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of demolition and strip-out methods is a plus.
• Experience with variation pricing and contract review is beneficial.
• Familiarity with older building structures is also desirable.
