Role Summary

The Environmental Compliance Lead will oversee permit implementation and environmental compliance during construction and operational phases of IPX projects across the United States. This leadership role involves managing consultant relationships, contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, and restoration efforts. The position reports to the Head of Environmental and Permitting and collaborates with internal teams and external providers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead compliance strategies for operational assets, including implementing tracking solutions.
  • Coordinate with development permitting leads to handle permits and compliance for assets under construction.
  • Manage environmental permit compliance for all operational projects.
  • Conduct annual environmental compliance training for onsite operations teams.
  • Supervise external consultants in biological, noise, and other environmental surveys and documentation preparation for compliance purposes.
  • Collaborate with internal geographically dispersed teams to ensure comprehensive environmental reporting and contract scopes.
  • Participate in field visits related to construction monitoring, community engagement, or regulatory reviews as necessary.
  • Oversee agency reporting to multiple regulatory bodies including CDFW, CEC, BLM, USFWS, among others.
  • Represent IPX in agency meetings and industry associations, conveying information internally.
  • Maintain and update construction and operational compliance schedules and budgets.
  • Create internal presentations and communications for management and stakeholders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus relevant Master's degree, or equivalent experience, with at least six years in environmental compliance for utility-scale renewables.
  • Experienced in working with local, state, and federal agencies, NGOs, tribes, industry groups, and community members.
  • Skilled in managing projects with notable public scrutiny and controversial aspects.
  • Background in wildlife ecology and knowledge of ESA/CESA compliance for solar and storage projects is advantageous.
  • Strong communication, strategic planning, organizational, and project management capabilities.
  • Able to work independently in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments.
  • Willingness to travel within the U.S. approximately twice quarterly or as needed.
