Role Overview
The Environmental & Social (E&S) Engineer is tasked with executing, overseeing, and documenting E&S mandates across project sites. This is to maintain adherence to laws, client stipulations, and global standards such as IFC, World Bank, and ISO 14001.
Primary Duties
- Enforce the Environmental Management Plan (EMP) and project-specific E&S criteria.
- Ensure alignment with regional environmental laws, client E&S protocols, and binding approvals.
- Supervise environmental factors including waste management, air/noise/water quality, hazardous material control, and spill prevention.
- Conduct frequent site inspections and audits, following through on corrective actions.
- Keep thorough records related to environmental permits and reporting.
- Deploy Social Management Plans (SMP) tailored to project and client needs.
- Monitor accommodations, worker welfare, and community relations.
- Manage grievances and support the grievance redress framework.
- Ensure labor law adherence and uphold ethical and human rights considerations.
- Assist in stakeholder engagement when necessary.
- Compile and submit periodic E&S documentation including daily to monthly reports.
- Facilitate internal/external audits, client reviews, and third-party evaluations.
- Monitor E&S key performance indicators and contribute to sustainability reporting.
- Lead E&S orientation and toolbox sessions for workforce and subcontractors.
- Advocate environmental consciousness and sustainable practices on-site.
- Collaborate closely with construction teams and consultants regarding E&S issues.
- Engage with clients, government bodies, and auditors to resolve compliance matters.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, or equivalent field.
- Between six to ten years of pertinent experience in environmental or social sustainability roles, ideally within infrastructure, EPC, or construction sectors.
- Preferred certifications include NEBOSH Environmental, IEMA, ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, with E&S familiarity related to IFC or World Bank standards considered advantageous.
