Job Overview
This role involves performing diverse electrical maintenance tasks including installation, repair, troubleshooting, and upkeep of machinery, equipment, and electrical fixtures. The position demands ensuring equipment operates efficiently with minimal downtime, strictly adhering to Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) standards, and embracing continuous process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Promptly respond to electrical breakdowns affecting equipment such as LV-MV motors, LV switchboards, MCCs, plant lighting systems, transformers, UPS units, VFDs, breakers, and soft starters.
- Conduct planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance activities independently with little supervision.
- Detect and report equipment anomalies; undertake repairs or replacements as needed, and ensure equipment is tested and the workspace is kept tidy post-maintenance.
- Evaluate job requirements technically to choose appropriate tools and equipment.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults in plant machinery efficiently, often without guidance.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management software (SAP) to requisition spare parts and maintain detailed maintenance records.
- Carry out all maintenance tasks in compliance with safety and operational protocols.
- Identify patterns in recurrent breakdowns and suggest viable modifications to prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical guidance to new electricians, craft trainees, and contractors regarding plant and equipment maintenance.
- Engage actively in safety, quality, and business excellence initiatives such as 5S programs to improve EHS and equipment performance.
- Support other departments with equipment repair and troubleshooting tasks as requested by superiors.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma in an electrical or related technical discipline.
- Completion of PEC Craft Training program.
- At least 3 years of pertinent experience within heavy industry environments, or no prior experience if PEC Craft Training is completed.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
- Knowledgeable about a wide range of maintenance tools; strong IT skills.
- Hands-on experience in installation and problem-solving of electrical equipment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and instructions with clarity.
