About the Role
A luxury fragrance company is looking for a Director or Senior Director to oversee their retail operations on the East Coast. Based in the New York City metro area, this role requires working in-office on Mondays and Tuesdays and traveling to retail locations approximately 70% of the time, frequently including overnight stays. The position leads the commercial success and strategic guidance of a large retail portfolio covering multiple markets in the Eastern and Central U.S. as well as Canada.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of sales and business outcomes for the regional retail portfolio.
- Create and execute plans to grow revenue, profitability, and store productivity sustainably.
- Analyze sales patterns, financial results, and business metrics to find risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive informed decisions on sales, labor, inventory, and operating costs to optimize performance.
- Work closely with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and expense control.
- Set clear performance goals and maintain team focus on key objectives.
- Translate corporate priorities into actionable regional retail strategies.
- Identify growth opportunities to enhance market presence, open new stores, and strengthen customer relationships.
- Keep abreast of competitors, market trends, and consumer behavior to guide strategy.
- Support and ensure successful store openings.
- Continuously review the retail portfolio for performance improvements and relevance.
- Lead and mentor Area Managers and senior retail leaders, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.
- Build a strong leadership pipeline and succession planning.
- Coordinate with Human Resources on talent management, performance, and employee relations.
- Promote exceptional and consistent customer experiences across stores using clienteling and CRM tactics.
- Ensure high standards of visual merchandising and operational excellence across locations.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, labor laws, safety, and operational procedures.
- Partner with executive and cross-functional teams to align and execute regional business goals.
Qualifications
- Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership managing multi-unit retail, preferably in luxury or specialty retail sectors.
- Strong track record driving business performance across diverse markets and locations.
- Excellent financial expertise handling budgets, forecasting, and profit optimization.
- Proven ability to elevate store productivity, customer engagement, and operational efficiency.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and cross-team collaboration capabilities.
- Experienced in developing and retaining talent and succession planning.
- Comfortable managing complexity and competing priorities in fast-paced environments.
- Willing and able to travel regularly throughout the region.
