Director of Operations

Position Summary

This leadership role is responsible for driving client relationships, contract oversight, and operational performance for the assigned business unit and market segments. The position partners closely with business development, preconstruction, and estimating teams to keep the project pipeline strong and aligned with the company’s growth plans. It also champions ongoing improvement efforts aimed at stronger productivity, better operational performance, compliance, safety, and client satisfaction.

Operational Leadership

• Create and execute plans that support operational excellence, safe working practices, budget control, schedule performance, and customer satisfaction.
• Guide and participate in continuous improvement efforts across projects and day-to-day operations.
• Work with executive leadership on company-wide operational initiatives and strategic programs.
• Take on special assignments and other strategic operational priorities as needed.

Client & Contract Management

• Handle customer expectations and build strong relationships that support service quality.
• Join contract reviews, negotiations, and proposal activities to help spot and reduce project risk.
• Make sure contractual obligations are followed throughout every stage of delivery.
• Set up regular meetings with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to review progress, issues, and execution plans.

Risk Management, Safety & Compliance

• Encourage and uphold environmental, health, and safety expectations across operations.
• Identify, assess, and communicate operational and project risks before work begins.
• Ensure company policies, operational procedures, and applicable laws and regulations are followed.
• Stay current on industry regulations and share relevant updates with operational teams.

Project & Financial Management

• Track schedules, procurement progress, budgets, and cost control measures.
• Ensure forecasting and cost-to-complete reports are accurate and timely.
• Oversee labor productivity and the efficient use of materials and equipment.
• Manage profit and loss reporting, cash flow, and overall financial results for operations.

Leadership & Talent Development

• Lead hiring, assessment, coaching, and development of managers, supervisors, and technical employees.
• Carry out performance reviews and provide regular feedback along with professional growth support.
• Assist with workforce planning and staffing requirements.
• Build collaboration, accountability, and a strong operational excellence mindset within the team.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Building Science, or a similar discipline, along with at least 10 years of experience in operations, construction, or project leadership. The role also requires experience managing operational budgets, profitability, and financial performance.

Technical Knowledge

Applicants need a solid grasp of construction methods, project management fundamentals, and operational controls. Familiarity with quality assurance and health and safety standards is important, as is proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools. Experience with procurement, scheduling, and project controls is also required.

Leadership & Soft Skills

Successful candidates should bring strong leadership and decision-making ability, plus excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills. Strong organization and time management, critical thinking, problem-solving, and the ability to stay effective under pressure are also important. Bilingual English/Spanish ability is preferred.

Work Environment

This position works across office and field settings at multiple project sites. Depending on operational and project demands, travel may be necessary.
