Role Overview
Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director of Operations leads the company's operational strategy and execution across project and program management, business analysis, and field services. This position ensures scalable operational processes that support rapid growth, improve customer experiences, enhance cross-department collaboration, and boost efficiency.
This role manages a multidisciplinary team handling customer project management and field service operations. The Director collaborates closely with teams in Sales, Engineering, Finance, Product Management, and Executive Leadership to implement scalable solutions, leverage data analytics for decisions, and drive continuous improvements fostering sustained growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement operational strategies aligning with organizational goals.
- Lead and optimize project management, program management, and field services operations, while cultivating leadership skills and preparing for executive succession.
- Define key performance indicators to drive continuous performance improvement and elevate customer satisfaction.
- Identify risks and establish scalable processes to support business expansion.
- Coach and develop high-performing, accountable teams within a collaborative culture.
- Partner with leadership on resource planning, workforce allocation, and organizational development.
- Oversee the Project Management Office (PMO) including customer implementations and strategic projects.
- Standardize project methodologies, governance, documentation, and reporting to increase project visibility.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Sales to improve project transitions and customer onboarding.
- Lead business process improvements by evaluating workflows, identifying automation opportunities, and adopting Lean and continuous improvement principles.
- Optimize ERP, CRM, and business systems to streamline efficiency and enhance customer experience.
- Develop operational dashboards and executive-level reports to monitor project completion, customer satisfaction, process efficiency, and supplier performance.
- Engage cross-functionally with Sales, Engineering, Finance, Customer Support, Warehouse & Logistics, Executive Leadership, and the German headquarters to align and execute operational objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, Supply Chain, Engineering or a related discipline.
- 8 to 12 years of progressive leadership experience in operations with successful team building.
- At least 5 years managing cross-functional teams and multiple operational functions simultaneously.
- Strong command of project management frameworks and ERP/CRM systems.
- Proven track record in organizational process improvement and operational excellence initiatives.
- Robust analytical and financial skills coupled with excellent communication and executive presentation abilities.
- Willingness to travel up to 35%, including to Ashburn, VA and international locations such as the German headquarters.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Background in manufacturing, industrial technology, electrical equipment, automation, or energy management sectors.
- Experience supporting technical product organizations.
- PMP certification is an asset.
- Experience working with global or international organizations.
Success Criteria for First 12-18 Months
- Standardization of project management processes and comprehensive reporting.
- Improved rate of on-time project delivery.
- Development of executive operational KPI dashboards.
- Implementation of high-impact business process automation projects.
- Enhanced collaboration between Sales, Engineering, Operations, and Finance teams.
- Establishment of a scalable operational framework to support ongoing company growth.
Work Schedule and Location
This position offers remote work eligibility depending on candidate location, with a hybrid schedule preferred for those residing within commuting distance to Ashburn, VA.
Compensation
The salary range for this role is $160,000 to $200,000 annually, plus a 15% yearly company bonus.
