Role Overview
The Director of Operations leads the internal systems and teams crucial to scaling MyFriendBen’s national presence. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role manages fundraising and grant activities, human resources functions, team coordination, organizational culture, and daily operational management. The position demands oversight of finance, vendor relations, staffing, onboarding, policy implementation, and strategic planning to ensure organizational effectiveness and alignment with the mission.
Key Duties
- Manage a broad portfolio of funders including foundations, corporations, and government sources, overseeing all stages from prospecting to stewardship.
- Write and submit clearly aligned grant proposals and inquiries, maintaining compliance with requirements and deadlines.
- Track grant deliverables, budgets, and prepare timely reports for various funders.
- Develop strong relationships with donors, board members, and partners through effective communication and reporting.
- Maintain accurate fundraising databases and provide revenue forecasts and status updates.
- Represent MyFriendBen at external events including funder conferences and donor meetings.
- Coordinate full-cycle recruitment and onboarding in collaboration with hiring managers.
- Develop and maintain HR systems, policies, employee handbook, benefits, and multi-state compliance.
- Foster a collaborative, transparent remote team culture with meetings, rituals, feedback channels, and recognition programs.
- Monitor employee morale and retention through surveys and engagement initiatives.
- Support staff performance with goal-setting, regular reviews, and professional growth plans.
- Address employee concerns and mediate interpersonal matters as needed.
- Supervise day-to-day operations including budgeting, contract management, vendor relations, and systems administration.
- Partner with leadership on organizational strategy, budgets, and fundraising targets.
- Regularly report organizational health metrics to leadership and the board.
- Seek improvements to operational processes as the organization grows and expands geographically.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum five years in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, operations, or people management.
- Demonstrated success managing donor cultivation, solicitation, and grants involving varied funder types.
- Experience with HR and operational management including compliance, payroll, benefits, and multi-state staffing.
- Proven ability to design and scale hiring, onboarding, and culture development in a growing organization.
- Strong communication skills for proposal writing and confidential personnel handling.
- Entrepreneurial mindset comfortable in a dynamic, fast-growing nonprofit setting.
- Familiarity with donor and HR databases, project management software, and operational tools.

Work Conditions and Travel
The role is chiefly remote with preference for candidates near Denver, CO. It involves occasional work from the Denver office and travel up to 20% for events, donor meetings, and retreats. Some weekend availability may be necessary.
