The Director plays a vital role in aligning logistics with project delivery goals and collaborating with executive management on risk management, capital allocation, and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities

- Design and implement standard operating procedures, tools, performance indicators, and templates for logistics operations.
- Enhance departmental capabilities to support expansion into new business areas, project types, and geographical regions.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Scheduling, and Procurement to ensure logistics align with project timelines and commissioning milestones.
- Contribute to project planning by analyzing freight costs, lead times, and potential risks.
- Handle escalations and recovery tactics for logistics disruptions impacting schedules or budgets.
- Plan complex on-site deliveries, including staged or access-constrained installations.
- Deliver executive-level reports covering logistics performance metrics, risks, and improvements.
- Manage strategic relationships with freight forwarders, third-party logistics providers, heavy haul carriers, customs brokers, and port agents.
Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of Logistics Coordinators, fostering their professional growth.
- Determine team composition, staffing needs, and role definitions as the logistics department scales.
- Promote a culture of high performance, accountability, proactive communication, and operational excellence.
- Serve as the final escalation point for complex or critical logistics challenges.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to U.S. customs regulations, export controls (including EAR/ITAR), and international trade laws.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of trade documents such as commercial invoices, bills of lading, certificates of conformity, HTS classifications, and import security filings.
- Oversee resolution of freight claims, damage issues, and corrective actions with carriers.
- Keep documentation audit-ready for financial, project management, and regulatory reviews.
Required Qualifications
- Between 8 and 15 years of experience in logistics, supply chain, or freight management, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.
- Proven expertise managing logistics for engineered-to-order, heavy industrial, or electrical equipment projects, such as transformers, switchgear, industrial skids, or battery energy storage system components.
- In-depth knowledge of freight modalities including LTL, FTL, flatbed, heavy haul, ocean (FCL/LCL), air freight, drayage, and last-mile delivery.
- Strong familiarity with U.S. import/export compliance protocols, including HTS classification, ISF, customs entries, Incoterms, and trade documentation.
- Experience negotiating and overseeing contracts and service level agreements with freight forwarders, 3PLs, and carriers.
- Proficiency with logistics management software such as Smartsheet, Power BI, ERP or SCM modules, and transportation management systems.
