About Fidus Systems
Established in 2001 and with headquarters in Ottawa, Fidus Systems is a specialist in electronic system design and development. With engineering teams located in Ottawa, Waterloo, and San Jose, the company concentrates on FPGA design, embedded software, ASIC RTL design and verification, hardware design, and signal integrity. Recognized as an AMD Embedded Premier Design Partner, Fidus leverages strong partnerships with leading silicon vendors to tackle challenging projects.
With a legacy spanning over 20 years and the completion of more than 4,000 projects, Fidus prides itself on a precise process that accelerates bringing designs and prototypes to market. The firm is known for transparency and a commitment to delivering quality from the outset. Their clientele spans various sectors including Telecom/Datacom, Aerospace & Defence, Consumer electronics, Semiconductors, Industrial/Automotive Controls, and Medical fields.
Role Overview
We are searching for a commercially sharp and technically knowledgeable professional with extensive experience in hardware design life cycles. The ideal candidate has a proven track record in opening new client accounts and successfully selling complex engineering services across North America, specifically within semiconductor, Telecom/Datacom, or Aerospace & Defence domains. Preference is given to candidates residing in strategic areas such as the Pacific Northwest (Washington/Oregon), North Central (Chicago or Saint Paul), South East (Atlanta), or US Central South (Texas). Expect travel commitments to be approximately 50% within the assigned territory.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and close new business opportunities involving Fidus design solutions and engineering products.
- Drive revenue growth through prospecting, upselling, and cross-selling activities within designated account territories.
- Utilize existing industry partnerships to establish new client contacts and expand networks.
- Gain comprehensive understanding of clients’ business needs, design challenges, and future plans to translate these into business opportunities.
- Position Fidus as a trusted early-stage design consultant for customer innovation in hardware development.
- Advocate confidently for premium North American engineering service rates by emphasizing benefits such as risk reduction, first-time silicon success, and co-location advantages instead of offshore cost savings.
- Engage with AMD, Altera, Intel, and Xilinx field application engineering teams and ecosystem partners to build pipelines and generate referrals.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A minimum of 8 years’ sales experience related to semiconductors, electronic design services, FPGA ecosystems, embedded software, or related engineering services.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
- Successful record in marketing both turnkey design services and onshore outsourced staffing focused on high-speed, complex designs.
- Experience with the semiconductor silicon ecosystem, including FPGA/ASIC silicon suppliers or their value-added distributors, is a considerable advantage.
- Degrees in Engineering or Business disciplines are strongly preferred.
- Proven technical aptitude in electronic design services or comparable industries.
- Knowledge of ITAR, Controlled Goods programs, or experience selling to defense/aerospace prime contractors represents a meaningful asset for positions targeting Aerospace & Defence or sensitive industrial sectors.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50% within the assigned territory.
Perks and Benefits
- Opportunity to work with a top-tier high-technology design firm engaged in emerging technologies including AI, IoT, autonomous vehicles, and fintech innovation.
- A chance to actively shape company growth and culture within an evolving organization.
- Access to cutting-edge technologies and participation in solving challenging engineering problems.
- A comprehensive benefits package supporting work-life balance and a collaborative company culture.
- Opportunity to be part of a business geared for expansion through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
Equal Opportunity and Inclusion
Fidus values diversity and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply. Accommodations during the recruitment process are available upon request to ensure equitable participation. The company is dedicated to fostering a diverse workplace and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
