Director of Athletic Communications

Position Overview

The Director of Athletic Communications is a senior member of the athletic administration at Alma College, tasked with leading media relations, branding initiatives, digital content creation, and storytelling to enhance the profile and reputation of the college's athletics program. This role manages sports statistics accurately and promptly, administers the athletics website and social channels, develops content strategy, ensures brand consistency, and oversees media coverage coordination for Alma College Athletics.

Key Duties

• Lead media relations activities including preparing and circulating news releases, profiling student-athletes, creating hometown feature stories, managing media inquiries, and coordinating press box duties.
• Manage statistics coordination for all home events and report results to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association and NCAA.
• Maintain and archive comprehensive athletics records and oversee the production of home game programs and media guides.
• Manage the athletics website AlmaScots.com by publishing and updating game stories, stats, photos, rosters, coaching bios, and schedules.
• Coordinate live statistics and video streaming during home games, and produce promotional athletics videos.
• Oversee social media accounts in compliance with NCAA regulations; develop marketing campaigns, graphics, and promotional posts.
• Promote student-athletes for conference, regional, and national honors and awards.
• Organize and publicize special athletics events and promotions, including preparations for Athletics Hall of Fame ceremonies.
• Collaborate with Communications and Marketing teams on photography, branding, marketing strategies, and publication efforts.
• Support athletics advertising and corporate sponsorship programs and assist with game management and event operations.
• Ensure the enforcement and ongoing review of athletics brand guidelines.
• Supervise two sports information interns and student assistants directly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications or a related discipline is required.
• Excellent writing abilities, organizational skills, and interpersonal capabilities.
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse colleagues, faculty, and students.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Capability to perform the essential functions of the role.

Preferred Experience

• Background in sports information management, web content administration, live statistics, and video production.
• Familiarity with sports statistics software and experience in publication development.
• Experience working with diverse, underrepresented, first-generation, or Pell-eligible student populations.
