Role overview
This position calls for an experienced telecom design and network operations professional with strong exposure to FTTx planning, GIS-based drafting, and end-to-end delivery of access network designs. The role also involves coordination with field teams, quality checks, corrective action handling, and support for team development.
Experience and domain background
The role requires at least 4 years of professional or technical experience in telecom. Candidates should have solid knowledge of FTTx network planning and design, along with hands-on use of GIS and drafting platforms such as MapInfo, Spatial Net, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and QGIS. Experience with team handling and quality control is also important.
Technical knowledge required
- Understanding of ANZ fiber network architecture and related specifications
- Strong grasp of OSP and ISP construction standards and field practices
- Ability to plan and design FTTP, FTTB, FTTC, FTTN, and HFC networks
- Knowledge of methods of measurement for FTTx network design and construction
- Capability to prepare BOQ and BOM for MDU-based designs
- Experience with copper and fiber access networks, including testing and quality standards
- Working knowledge of cable, joint, and equipment installation methods
- Familiarity with aerial and underground cabling approaches
- Understanding of passive telecom networks and last-mile optical/copper distribution
Key responsibilities
- Plan and design FTTx networks using GIS-based tools
- Review design outputs and maintain quality across deliveries
- Support team members through training and efficiency improvement initiatives
- Analyze GIS datasets to create new information and identify patterns
- Prepare detail designs, survey packs, construction plans, BOQs, and BOMs
- Validate survey reports and site designs received from field teams
- Coordinate with stakeholders regarding rejections and required corrective actions
- Work closely with field teams to gather missing data and clarify requirements
- Interpret technical specifications, drawings, and regulations for telecom equipment use
- Develop power designs in line with utility guidelines
- Maintain GIS data storage structures and related information systems

- Strong hands-on capability with MapInfo and AutoCAD
- Advanced working knowledge of QGIS, ArcGIS, Spatial Net, or similar tools
- Ability to handle MDU design requirements effectively
- Practical understanding of telecom passive network planning for FTTx technologies
