Custodian (37.5 Hour) Office/On-site

Introduction

We are seeking a dedicated Custodian to join the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System at Norwich Technical High School in Norwich, CT. This full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to a clean, safe, and inviting educational environment for students, staff, and visitors. The role involves general cleaning duties, minor maintenance, and ensuring that various areas are prepared and well-maintained for daily use.

Position Details

• Location: Norwich Technical High School, Norwich, CT
• Shift: First Shift
• Hours: 37.5 hours per week
• Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM

Responsibilities

• Perform routine custodial tasks in classrooms, offices, auditoriums, kitchens, dining areas, lavatories, dormitories, and outdoor grounds including trash collection.
• Clean floors by dusting, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing using appropriate equipment such as buffers and polishers.
• Clean and polish glass surfaces including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal fixtures.
• Make beds, manage linens within assigned areas, and collect soiled laundry.
• Sanitize glassware, wash basins, and bedpans.
• Sweep pathways and remove trash regularly.
• Report repair needs and conduct minor maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs and changing fuses.
• Lubricate door hinges and tighten hardware, replace tiles, and manage snow/ice removal on walkways as needed.
• Move furniture and assist in classroom setup.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Good interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions carefully.
• Competence in operating and performing minor maintenance on custodial tools and equipment.
• Record-keeping abilities.
• Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform duties involving lifting moderate to heavy weights and continuous physical activity.
• A physical examination may be required.
• Preferred: Experience in school custodial work, floor waxing and polishing, snow and ice management, deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities, and furniture moving and classroom setup.
• May require possession and maintenance of applicable licenses, permits, and certifications as deemed necessary by the appointing authority.
