Position Overview
This role involves delivering advanced administrative and investigative assistance within the daily functions of the Police Department.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and analyze crime reports, arrest records, field interviews, intelligence data, and other crime-related information to identify crime trends through chronological, geographic, and statistical analysis.
- Compile, examine, and generate detailed statistical crime reports; prepare and disseminate these reports to government management, elected officials, community groups, and other stakeholders.
- Access and query diverse local, state, and federal databases including GIS, CAD, police records, and the Georgia Crime Information Center; produce maps and conduct data conversions to assist in crime pattern geographic and temporal studies.
- Act as a liaison providing crime analysis to department personnel and external agencies; support tactical crime control strategies by interpreting offender methods and field data.
- Support investigations and traffic control efforts by retrieving background information and responding to ad hoc requests from command staff and various units.
- Develop and maintain databases, spreadsheets, maps, and digital materials; ensure data accuracy and provide information in both electronic and hard-copy formats to the public.
- Train department staff on analytical systems and data practices, identifying information gaps to streamline data collection.
- Stay updated on research methods, policing issues, and technology advancements; recommend improvements for analytical procedures.
- Assist in designing and maintaining operational databases and software, ensuring productive work output and proper functioning of equipment.
- Manage various documentation per established procedures, including reviewing, completing, processing, and maintaining records related to department operations.
- Use computer software for data management, communications, and documentation; operate office equipment as required to fulfill duties.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, law enforcement, public, and other agencies to coordinate activities and exchange information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Business or Data Analysis, or a related discipline, plus two years of relevant data gathering and analytic experience; law enforcement background preferred.
Licensure & Certifications: Valid Georgia driver’s license and current Georgia Crime Information Center Basic Operator certification required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of local government functions, law enforcement programs, policies, and office procedures.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong computer skills, especially in software relevant to job functions.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to interact professionally and courteously with coworkers and the public.
- Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings.
- Excellent multitasking and deadline management skills.
- Discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Financial processing skills for departmental budgets and payments.
- Competence in data entry, word processing, and basic accounting software.
- Ability to use office equipment like copiers.
Physical and Work Environment
The role is predominantly sedentary with occasional light physical exertion. Requires mental sharpness, good verbal expression, and close visual focus. Work is conducted in a secure, safe office environment.
