About the role
This is a permanent, full-time opportunity at the Manukau District Court in Auckland. The position focuses on supporting victims of crime as they move through the court process, with a strong emphasis on keeping them informed and helping them take part effectively in the criminal justice system.
You will be working with people affected by serious offending, especially family violence, and your work will directly contribute to improving their experience of the justice process.
What you will do
- Provide practical support to victims throughout the court journey.
- Keep victims informed about the status and progress of their cases.
- Help victims engage confidently and effectively with the criminal justice system.
- Work closely with stakeholders and others involved in supporting victims.
What you need to bring
The role calls for someone who is steady under pressure, comfortable working with people, and able to respond calmly and appropriately in sensitive situations.
- Resilience and confidence when dealing with people in distressing circumstances.
- A calm and approachable manner with the ability to connect well with others.
- Comfort handling the challenges of working with stakeholders and victims impacted by serious crime, particularly family violence.
About the team
You will join the South Auckland team of Court Victim Advisors and be based at the Manukau District Court. The Ministry of Justice is committed to building a fair and safe Aotearoa, and values an inclusive workplace where respect, diversity, health, safety, and belonging are actively supported.
Skills and experience
The ideal candidate will reflect the local community and be able to support the Ministry’s commitment to serving the people of Aotearoa.
- Strong communication skills and sound judgement.
- Proven ability to build and sustain effective working relationships.
- Multicultural awareness and the ability to work effectively with victims and their whānau from diverse backgrounds.
- A relevant tertiary qualification and/or experience in the family violence sector is preferred.
