Overview
The Corporate Banking Associate is an essential member of BBVA’s Corporate & Investment Banking client service team focused on supporting Relationship Managers in delivering a broad set of banking products and services to corporate clients, with a strong emphasis on the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT) sector. This role involves collaboration across global teams in the US, Latin America, Europe, and Asia to facilitate deal execution and client engagement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify client needs promptly and respond efficiently to inquiries.
- Coordinate transaction closings, ensuring all documentation and follow-ups are completed.
- Prepare materials and plans for client meetings, including presentations and background research.
- Research and assess potential new client opportunities.
- Create transaction summaries and conduct Risk-Adjusted-Return analyses involving financial projections and SWOT assessments for credit committee presentations.
- Analyze relationships globally and gather credit and revenue data from BBVA subsidiaries, focusing on Latin America.
- Participate actively in Credit Committees alongside Relationship Managers.
- Collaborate with Product teams including Debt Capital Markets, Bank Syndications, Corporate Lending, Foreign Exchange, and Cash Management, including coordination with teams in Spain and Latin America.
- Coordinate internal processes with Credit, Legal, and Operational departments.
- Resolve financial and administrative issues by working with Operations, Middle Office, and Business Development.
- Conduct research on equity analyst reports about products, industries, countries, and economic outlooks.
- Ensure accuracy in profitability reporting and maintain CRM systems for pipeline and performance tracking.
Role Complexity and Scope
The Associate role demands significant analytical depth and responsibility, especially supporting client opportunities in Latin America, and requires identifying business matches aligned with bank capabilities and offerings. Associates support global relationship management and product teams daily and are integral to successful transaction execution and client management.
Additional Role Expectations
- Fluency in English, Spanish preferred but not mandatory for communication.
- Strong finance and accounting knowledge with high attention to detail in client documentation.
- Effective collaboration with cross-regional teams, particularly in Spain and Latin America.
- Capability to work under pressure and maintain deadlines.
- Develop in-depth understanding of US corporate banking and Latin American transactional banking services.
- Exemplify strong work ethic and proactive engagement.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree minimum with at least 4 years of professional experience; MBA preferred.
- Strong analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Familiarity or interest in Technology, Media & Telecommunications sector highly desirable; prior sector experience is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint; knowledge of Reuters and Bloomberg advantageous.
- Understanding of international economics and markets, particularly Spain and Latin America.
- Credit training is beneficial.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordination across departments and regions.
- Detail-oriented with strong teamwork abilities.
Compensation and Equal Opportunity
The position, based in New York, offers a base salary range between $120,000 and $140,000, with actual offers reflecting experience, expertise, and other factors. Additional benefits and eligibility for discretionary bonuses are provided. Employment is contingent on eligibility to work in the US; visa sponsorship is not available.
