Job Overview

The Controller, Shift plays a pivotal role in overseeing and directing all operational activities during assigned shifts for complex production units. Responsibilities encompass managing the movement, storage, and blending of raw materials, sulphur, and refined products, as well as coordinating loading operations at marine jetties and road tankers. This position ensures seamless synchronization of operations in compliance with procedures to achieve predefined production targets efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively. The role carries responsibility for afternoon and night shifts, including holidays, acting as the on-site leader during emergency situations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze operational parameters and laboratory analyses continuously throughout the shift to meet refining production goals with minimal waste, optimal cost, and environmental safeguards.
  • Coordinate after-hours maintenance and support services with on-call personnel across mechanical, electrical, control, production, safety, and general service domains ensuring safety and minimal disruption according to the Takreer HSE Manual.
  • Liaise with external partners such as GASCO, Borouge, and Fertile as necessary.
  • Ensure that all unit staff are well versed with operational protocols and emergency procedures, including conducting scheduled emergency simulations.
  • Serve as the incident commander during emergencies, determining and declaring the nature of emergencies and leading response efforts to maximize safety and effectiveness.
  • Conduct reviews of accidents, incidents, and near misses with team members to prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with Unit Supervisors to minimize unplanned flaring and enhance utility efficiency.
  • Oversee security, general services, and administrative matters beyond regular hours by coordinating with on-call personnel as needed.
  • Report operational status, issues, and interim solutions to supervisors while managing unique shift challenges within the refinery and regional operations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years’ experience in plant operations, including a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory capacity.

Skills and Competencies

  • Possession of a UAE driving license is beneficial.
  • Proficient in English; Arabic language skills are preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the operational business environment and its impacts.
  • Strong leadership and planning abilities.
  • Proficient in DCS software applications.
  • Basic computer literacy and solid mathematical skills.
  • Effective time management and organizational competencies.
  • Report writing proficiency.
  • Thorough knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems (HSEMS).
