Role Overview

The Instrument Commissioning Supervisor is tasked with overseeing and coordinating all offshore instrumentation and control system commissioning activities, ensuring that operations adhere to client standards, project procedures, and strict HSE guidelines in the oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate offshore instrument commissioning efforts.
  • Plan and carry out pre-commissioning, commissioning, testing, start-up, and handover procedures.
  • Review and execute approved commissioning documents such as procedures, method statements, test packs, and project specifications.
  • Manage instrument calibration, continuity verifications, loop checks, functional testing, and overall system commissioning.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities involving DCS, ESD, PLC, SCADA, Fire & Gas systems, control and shutdown valves, instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, and level, analyzers, metering systems, and package equipment instrumentation.
  • Lead Cause & Effect testing and verify functionality.
  • Liaise with vendors of DCS, ESD, F&G, package equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Conduct system walkdowns and oversee resolution of punch-list items.
  • Collaborate with Construction, Electrical, Mechanical, Process, Operations, and HSE teams.
  • Track daily commissioning progress and report to the Commissioning Manager.
  • Ensure accurate completion and submission of commissioning documentation, including test sheets, checklists, and handover dossiers.
  • Support offshore start-up and operational readiness activities.
  • Maintain strict compliance with safety protocols including Permit to Work (PTW), LOTO, SIMOPS, JSA, and client HSE requirements.
  • Facilitate toolbox talks and pre-job safety briefings.
  • Supervise and guide Instrument Technicians, Engineers, and other commissioning personnel.
  • Ensure all commissioning tasks are executed safely, efficiently, and within the approved schedule.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Control Systems, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Possession of relevant technical certification in Instrumentation and Control Systems.
  • Valid offshore safety training certification such as BOSIET or FOET.
  • Valid offshore medical fitness certification.
  • H2S certification, if mandated by the project.

Experience

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in Instrumentation and Control Systems.
  • Minimum 5 years dedicated to commissioning and start-up activities.
  • Proven track record as an Instrument Commissioning Supervisor, Lead Instrument Engineer, or Senior Instrument Commissioning Engineer.
  • Prior involvement in offshore Oil & Gas projects is highly advantageous.
