East Kimberley is a remote and visually striking region in north-east Western Australia, known for its wilderness, tourism, outdoor experiences, fishing, caravan parks, accommodation, food and welcoming communities. The area offers a distinctive lifestyle with a wide mix of cultures and opportunities.

What the role involves

  • Encouraging collaboration between organisations to improve shared resources, volunteer growth and community connections.
  • Supporting planning work for community, sport and recreation facilities, including master planning, needs assessments and feasibility studies.
  • Preparing reports, maintaining databases and tracking performance measures for community development work.
  • Contributing to community development projects linked to the Shire’s strategic and corporate plans.
  • Working across teams to achieve positive outcomes for the local community.

Role requirements

To be successful, you should have relevant qualifications in Community Development, Sport and Recreation, Governance or a closely related area, or equivalent industry experience. A current unrestricted WA driver’s licence, Working with Children Check and National Police Clearance are essential.

You will also need experience working with community organisations or sporting clubs, a solid understanding of governance and incorporated associations, strong communication and stakeholder engagement ability, good project management skills, advanced report writing capability and the confidence to build effective relationships across diverse groups. Experience in regional or remote communities and familiarity with local government will be viewed favourably.

The salary range is listed at $90,000 to $109,999 per year, depending on classification and experience. The Shire also offers a benefits package that may include:

  • 6 weeks of annual leave.
  • 12% employer superannuation, with the Shire matching up to an additional 5% through co-contributions when the employee contributes the same amount.
  • Salary packaging options for motor vehicles, rent or mortgage interest costs.
  • 11 public holidays plus 2 extra Local Government Days each year.
  • Flexible working arrangements.
  • Corporate uniforms supplied by the Shire.
