Position Overview
The Claims Specialist position involves handling low to mid level auto and general liability claims, including cases of bodily injury and property damage. Working under the direct guidance of a senior claims expert, the specialist applies company best practices and delegated authority to achieve optimal claim outcomes while contributing to the goals of the claims department and CorVel Corporation as a whole. This is a fully remote role.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process auto and general liability claims, confirming policy coverage and acknowledgment of each claim.
- Assess the eligibility and compensability of claims accurately.
- Set reserves and approve payments within authorized reserving limits.
- Handle non-complex claims independently but under close supervision.
- Maintain regular communication with customers, claimants, and clients regarding claim status updates.
- Follow client and carrier protocols closely and engage in claims review sessions as required.
- Support senior claims professionals by assisting with difficult or complex claims as needed.
- Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by management.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Quick learning aptitude to develop comprehensive claims knowledge.
- Proficiency in problem identification, analysis, and resolution.
- Technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal skills combined with time management and organizational capabilities.
- Ability to meet or surpass established performance metrics.
- Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent mix of education and relevant experience.
- At least one year of industry experience preferred, particularly with claims management.

CorVel utilizes a market-based compensation strategy reflecting geographic differences, minimum wage laws, candidate qualifications, experience, and internal equity. Salary ranges for this role span from $52,999 to $85,473 annually, with level placement (I, II, III, Senior, Lead) determined post-interview based on experience and fit, which may influence compensation.
