Description de l'emploi

Role overview

Triumvirate Environmental’s subsidiary, Photech Environmental Services Inc., is hiring a Chemical Technician for its Niagara Falls, Ontario location. The business supports hazardous waste disposal for industrial, research, and institutional clients across Ontario. In this position, you will help manage lab pack processing work, where hazardous chemical waste is manually broken down, sorted, and prepared for bulking, treatment, recycling, or shipment to the company’s transfer and processing facility.

The role focuses on overseeing the full waste-processing flow in the lab pack production area. You will sort chemical containers, group materials by compatibility, label them correctly, and move filled bins along the conveyor for later bulking at designated stations.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the team in a chemical waste consolidation and processing environment.
  • Carry out work in challenging seasonal conditions, including heat and cold.
  • Wear and properly use task-specific protective gear such as full-face respiratory protection, poly-coated Tyvek PPE, hard hat, and CSA-approved safety boots.
  • Inspect waste on site, classify materials, and separate hazardous waste by chemical compatibility and final disposition stream.
  • Safely combine processable segregated waste for downstream handling.
  • Repackage highly hazardous materials in a safe manner for disposal.
  • Prepare and mark bulk waste containers in line with regulatory rules and company procedures.
  • Keep detailed and accurate records of waste-processing work.
  • Act quickly and appropriately during emergencies involving hazardous substances.
  • Operate lift trucks safely.
  • Support occasional weekend household hazardous waste events across Ontario by identifying chemicals, segregating waste, and packing materials.

Requirements

  • Completion of a two- or three-year college program in chemical, biochemical, chemical engineering technology, or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Regulation 347 under the Environmental Protection Act.
  • At least 3 years of experience in hazardous waste processing and material handling.
  • Strong spoken and written communication skills for professional interaction with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to assess complex problems, create solutions, and apply effective strategies.
  • Valid provincial driver’s licence.
  • Willingness to complete a criminal background check.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to work overtime on a regular basis.
  • Must be clean-shaven and able to wear required safety equipment in both hot and cold working conditions.
  • This is a safety-sensitive role that involves frequent handling of hazardous chemicals and regular removal and reapplication of personal protective equipment.

Perks and benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Extensive safety training for selected roles.
  • Opportunities for external training and certifications.
  • Mentorship and career succession planning.
