About ServcoCanada and Role Overview
ServcoCanada Inc., a Canadian-owned industrial construction company with more than two decades of experience, is renowned for its efficient project delivery and regulatory compliance. We are expanding our Fabrication Department and are seeking a Mechanical Designer specializing in Fabrication & Virtual Design Construction (VDC). This vital position involves converting project details into fabrication-ready 3D models and drawings that support shop production.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain detailed 3D fabrication models using Revit, AutoCAD, CADmep, and Navisworks.
- Ensure project models meet Level of Development 400 standards, making them suitable for fabrication shops.
- Produce comprehensive pipe fabrication and spool drawings.
- Generate CNC machine files and complete fabrication data packages for automated equipment use.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, field staff, clients, and engineering teams to address design and constructability challenges.
- Engage in BIM/VDC coordination meetings, providing fabrication-focused insights throughout project stages.
- Monitor model revisions, design modifications, and related fabrication implications during project progression.
- Maintain change logs and keep all project documentation up-to-date and accurate.
- Review project specifications, drawings, schedules, and scopes to ensure all fabrication requirements are captured.
- Support fabrication planning by identifying conflicts, missing information, and opportunities to improve processes.
- Work jointly with fabrication teams to ensure model accuracy relative to shop capabilities and requirements.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of ServcoCanada's digital fabrication standards and workflows.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Candidate Qualifications
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada with verified long-term work authorization.
- Residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba, or nearby areas is mandatory.
- Possession of personal transportation is required.
- Proven experience creating 3D mechanical models using Revit, CADmep, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
- Familiarity with BIM/VDC processes and fabrication modeling techniques.
- Solid understanding of Level of Development (LOD) requirements, especially LOD 400 modeling proficiency.
- Ability to accurately interpret engineering drawings and design concepts into fabrication-grade models.
- Experience producing fabrication drawings and managing model revisions during project execution.
- Knowledge of pipe fabrication and CNC-driven fabrication processes is advantageous.
- Competence in reading and analyzing construction documents, specifications, and schedules.
- Industrial mechanical construction experience is preferred.
- Excellent organizational abilities to prioritize and meet deadlines effectively.
- Strong communication skills—verbal, written, and interpersonal.
- Detail-oriented with well-developed problem-solving skills.
- Adaptability to fast-moving projects and evolving requirements.
- Motivated by continuous improvement, diligence, and teamwork.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Bluebeam or Adobe Acrobat.
- Demonstrated initiative and proactive problem-solving within the fabrication and VDC processes.
