Job Description
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking a Business Adviser to join the Cost Recovery Oversight team in Wellington. This full-time, permanent role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of finance, policy, and real-world impact, shaping cost recovery mechanisms across New Zealand's food system. You will be instrumental in influencing fees, pricing models, and regulatory frameworks that have national significance.
As a Business Adviser, you will be responsible for designing and enhancing cost recovery arrangements within New Zealand Food Safety. This involves working with legislation, policy, and financial data to ensure systems are equitable, transparent, and effective. The position is project-based and offers exposure to forecasting, financial analysis, and the implementation of various charges and levies.
About the Role
Key responsibilities include analyzing legislation, policy, and financial information; supporting the design and review of fees, levies, and charges; translating data into cost recovery and pricing models; drafting documentation, advice, and public communications; and contributing to the implementation of charging frameworks.
About You
Ideal candidates may have experience as a Financial Analyst, Pricing Analyst, Policy Adviser, Regulatory Analyst, or Management Consultant, potentially from banking, financial services, consulting, or central government. You should possess strong analytical, modeling, and communication skills, with the ability to work with complex financial data, legislation, and policy. A foundation in finance, economics, accounting, or commerce is expected, along with a detail-oriented and methodical approach. While not all requirements must be met, a strong potential fit is encouraged.
About the Team
You will join the collaborative and multidisciplinary Cost Recovery Oversight Team within Regulatory Support & Performance at New Zealand Food Safety. The team works closely with finance, policy, operational teams, and NZFS leaders to deliver robust cost recovery systems.
