Role Overview
The Budget Specialist plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing an organization's financial planning and budget management. This role involves preparing, monitoring, and analyzing budgets to ensure alignment with strategic goals and sound financial governance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage annual and multi-year budgets aligned with the organization’s objectives.
- Evaluate budget proposals and financial forecasts to aid in strategic planning.
- Track expenditures versus approved budgets and investigate discrepancies.
- Compile comprehensive budget performance reports on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis for leadership review.
- Liaise with various departments to collect budget inputs and offer financial advice.
- Guide the entire budget cycle including preparation, review sessions, and necessary revisions.
- Create financial models and projections to predict future funding needs.
- Ensure adherence to financial policies, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Identify and recommend efficiency improvements and potential cost reductions.
- Support senior management and executive committees by preparing presentations and detailed reports.
- Assist audit processes by supplying required budget documentation and information.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent education combined with relevant professional experience.
- Professional certifications like CIPFA, ACCA, or CPA are preferred.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in budgeting or a similar function.
